Teaching the Breath: The 3-D Diaphragm
This course is part of our Om 2018 200hour Teacher Training Syllabus. It is Designed especially for yoga educators and is also open to experienced teachers. This session will clarify many misconceptions that surround the subject of healthy breathing. Participants can expect to come away with more accurate concepts and language pertaining to:
Basic breath anatomy
Basic breath physiology
Breathing and the nervous system
Spinal Structure and Function: Cueing Breath and Spine
This workshop will begin with a brief history of the evolution and development of the human spine, viewed through the yogic lens of sthira and sukha.
We will then explore the principles of how breath and spinal movements can coordinate to produce healthy range of motion and support in yoga practice, with a particular emphasis on the creative use of teaching language.

Morning: 9:15 am – 12:15 pm: Teaching the Breath: The 3-D Diaphragm
Afternoon: 1:30 – 4:30 pm: Spinal Structure and Function: Cueing Breath and Spine

Bio: Leslie Kaminoff is a yoga educator inspired by the tradition of T.K.V. Desikachar. He is recognized internationally as a specialist in the fields of yoga, breath anatomy and bodywork. For four decades he has led workshops and developed specialized education for many leading yoga associations, schools and training programs in America and throughout the world. His approach to teaching combines intellectual rigor, spontaneity and humor, and is always evolving.
Leslie is the founder of The Breathing Project, a New York City based educational non-profit dedicated to advancing educational standards for yoga teachers and other movement professionals. His unique year-long course, once available only at his home studio, is now available online at yogaanatomy.net.
He is the co-author, with Amy Matthews, of the best-selling book “Yoga Anatomy.”
